Greens leadership contest in Australia after Larissa Waters' resignation

Several prominent Greens politicians, including Sarah Hanson-Young and Mehreen Faruqi, have announced their candidacies for the party leadership. This contest follows the unexpected resignation of Senator Larissa Waters. The outcome is expected imminently, with David Shoebridge also considered a frontrunner.

The leadership race occurs as the Australian political landscape shifts. The Greens, a minor party with significant influence in certain electorates, will select a new figurehead to guide their policy and electoral strategy. The internal competition reflects ongoing debates within the party about its direction and public image.
