Terms of Service
Last updated: April 20, 2026
1. Agreement to terms
By accessing or using Zaviye (the "Service"), operated at zaviye.news, you agree to these Terms of Service. If you don't agree, don't use the Service. We may update these Terms — material changes will be announced with 30 days' notice.
2. What Zaviye is
Zaviye is a news intelligence platform. We monitor press across Farsi, Kurdish, Arabic, Turkish, and English — translating, clustering, and surfacing patterns on a web feed (in English), a weekly email Letter, a Glossary, and a developer API. We offer free and paid personal tiers, institutional team subscriptions, and a commercial API.
3. Accounts
You may browse Zaviye without an account. An account lets you save reading history, follow topics, subscribe to the Dossier, and purchase a paid plan.
- You must be at least 16 years old to create an account.
- You provide a valid email. Authentication is via Supabase; we never see your password.
- You're responsible for activity under your account and for keeping credentials secure.
- One account per person. Don't share credentials. For multi-person teams, use an institutional subscription.
4. Plans, billing, and refunds
Zaviye offers four consumer tiers and an enterprise/site-licence option. See /pricing for details; summarised here for reference:
- Reader — free. Every story is free to read.
- Weekend Reader — $8/month or $80/year. The members' edition + Developer-tier API access.
- Weekend Reader Pro — $24/month or $240/year. Adds team seats (up to 5) and Studio-tier API access.
- Insider — $60/month or $600/year. Adds institutional seats (up to 100) and Press-tier API access.
- Enterprise / Site Licence — from $15,000/year, annual invoice + PO. See /institutions.
Payment is processed by Paddle. Subscriptions auto-renew each cycle until cancelled. You can cancel from your account any time; access continues to the end of the paid period. For refunds see /refund. Prices are in USD.
Price changes apply prospectively with 30 days' notice; existing subscribers keep their current price for the remainder of their paid period.
5. Acceptable use
Don't:
- Use the Service for unlawful purposes.
- Scrape, bulk-download, or mirror content outside of documented API use (see §6).
- Attempt to gain unauthorised access to accounts, systems, or data.
- Interfere with or disrupt Service infrastructure, including coordinated abusive traffic.
- Impersonate another person or institution, or misrepresent affiliation with Zaviye.
- Circumvent rate limits via multi-account registration, VPN rotation, or key sharing.
- Use the Service to generate disinformation, targeted harassment, or engagement-bait content.
Violations can lead to account suspension, key revocation, or permanent termination. Serious violations (unauthorised access, large-scale abuse) may be reported to law enforcement.
6. Developer API and MCP
The developer API (at /api/v1/*) and the MCP server (at /api/mcp/mcp) are governed by these Terms plus the plan entitlements documented at /developers.
You may:
- Build commercial products on Zaviye data, including paid end-user products.
- Display clusters, framing analysis, and coverage-gap signals in your UI.
- Cache API responses within the data window of your tier.
- Combine Zaviye data with other sources.
- Train models on API response data only on Press or Enterprise tiers, with clear Zaviye attribution.
You may not:
- Resell raw article URLs as if they were a feed you own.
- Ship products that imitate the Zaviye brand or that appear to be official Zaviye products.
- Use Zaviye data to generate content intended to manipulate, harass, or deceive.
- Share API keys outside your organisation.
Keys may be revoked for policy violations with 30 days' notice, except for acute misuse (rate-limit circumvention, abuse), where revocation is immediate. Rate limiting, burst caps, and tier-specific feature gating are enforced server-side; attempting to circumvent them is a violation.
7. Institutional and team use
Institutional subscriptions are documented at /institutions. The subscribing institution is responsible for seat assignments and for ensuring its team members also comply with these Terms. Individual team members' reading histories remain private to them; institution administrators cannot access them.
Site Licence (Enterprise) subscribers operate under a separate order form that may include a DPA, SLAs, and custom terms. In case of conflict, the signed order form governs.
8. Intellectual property
The Zaviye platform, including its editorial curation, AI-processed summaries, Glossary entries, Letter content, design system, brand, wordmark (ZAVIYE / زاویه), and proprietary features, is owned by Zaviye.
News articles displayed or linked from the platform are owned by their respective publishers; we present them under fair-dealing / fair-use principles for editorial commentary, criticism, and news reporting. We do not claim ownership of third-party articles we cluster or link to.
Under a paid subscription, you may read, privately save, and personally quote Zaviye content with attribution. For republication, translation, or commercial re-use beyond API-tier permissions, contact [email protected].
9. AI-generated content
Parts of the Service are produced with AI assistance: cross-language clustering, headline and summary generation, framing analysis, translation. AI output is reviewed by editors before publication on most surfaces, but it may still contain errors.
AI-generated content is provided for informational and editorial purposes only. It's not professional advice (legal, medical, financial, immigration, or otherwise). We don't guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or timeliness of AI outputs. Your reading decisions, investments, votes, and life choices are yours.
10. Privacy
Use of the Service is also governed by our Privacy Policy. The privacy policy documents your rights under GDPR and how to exercise them.
11. Content you post
If Zaviye surfaces allow you to post content (comments on stories when that feature ships, replies to the Dossier, feedback forms), you retain ownership of your content. By posting you grant Zaviye a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, display, moderate, and quote the content within the Service and in Zaviye's own editorial commentary.
Don't post: anything illegal, defamatory, infringing, harassing, doxxing, or violating others' rights. We can remove content that violates these Terms without notice; we prefer to explain why when we do.
12. Termination and deletion
You can delete your account any time from account settings. Deletion starts a 30-day soft-delete window during which you can recover the account; after 30 days your personal data is permanently removed (see Privacy Policy §10).
We can suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms, with notice where practicable. Certain provisions — §8 (IP), §13 (disclaimers), §14 (liability), §16 (governing law) — survive termination.
13. Disclaimers
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, accuracy, or uninterrupted operation.
Zaviye clusters and comments on third-party news content; we are not responsible for the accuracy, views, or editorial stance of those third-party sources. Our editorial framing is our own; it isn't endorsed by the publishers we reference.
14. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Zaviye is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, punitive, or exemplary damages, or for lost profits, lost data, or lost goodwill, even if we were warned such damages were possible. Our total aggregate liability for any claim shall not exceed the greater of (a) the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, or (b) €100.
Some jurisdictions don't allow certain liability exclusions; in those jurisdictions these limits apply only to the extent allowed by law.
15. Changes to the Service or these Terms
We may change, suspend, or discontinue any part of the Service. We'll give registered users reasonable notice of significant changes (e.g. plan feature removals, cadence changes, shutdown of a surface).
Material changes to these Terms will be announced by email to registered users at least 30 days before they take effect. Continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance. The "Last updated" timestamp at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. Prior versions are available on request.
16. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Germany. Any disputes shall be resolved in the courts of Berlin, Germany. If you're a consumer in the EU, mandatory consumer-protection laws of your country of residence still apply.
